Greenwich Township Public Service Announcement:Secondhand Smoke and Lung Disease In addition to nicotine, tobacco smoke contains tar, carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, phenols, ammonia, formaldehyde, benzene and nitrosamine. Among the 4,000 individual compounds that have been identified in tobacco smoke, 60 have been found to produce irreversible changes in normal cells and produce cancerous tumors.
